Reoperation for recurrence after resection of primary hepatocellular carcinoma: a case report and literature review

  • Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a malignant tumor with high incidence worldwide, especially in China. Surgical resection is the standard therapy for HCC. With the developments of surgical and supportive techniques, perioperative risk is significantly reduced, but the postoperative survival rate is low due to the high recurrence rate. In this article, we report a case with reoperation for recurrence after resection of primary hepatocellular carcinoma, and review the progress in prevention and treatment of recurrence after resection of primary HCC.

Abstract: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a malignant tumor with high incidence worldwide, especially in China. Surgical resection is the standard therapy for HCC. With the developments of surgical and supportive techniques, perioperative risk is significantly reduced, but the postoperative survival rate is low due to the high recurrence rate. In this article, we report a case with reoperation for recurrence after resection of primary hepatocellular carcinoma, and review the progress in prevention and treatment of recurrence after resection of primary HCC.
