Comparison of contents of diosgenin in Dioscorea nipponica Makino from different producing areas

  • Objective: To determine the contents of diosgenin in Dioscorea nipponica Makino produced in differ-ent areas and find the best producing area. Methods: The contents of diosgenin in Dioscorea nipponica Makino were determine by a RP-HPLC method. Results: It shows that the content varies greatly in different producing areas.The content of diosgenin is higher in Henlongjiang, Neimeng, Hebei, among which the content in Heilongjiang is the hightest (1.49%). Conclusion: Heilongjiang can considered as the optimal producing area of diosgenin in Dioscorea nipponica Makino.

Abstract: Objective: To determine the contents of diosgenin in Dioscorea nipponica Makino produced in differ-ent areas and find the best producing area. Methods: The contents of diosgenin in Dioscorea nipponica Makino were determine by a RP-HPLC method. Results: It shows that the content varies greatly in different producing areas.The content of diosgenin is higher in Henlongjiang, Neimeng, Hebei, among which the content in Heilongjiang is the hightest (1.49%).
